Boys CC at Portage

This past Saturday, the Men’s Cross Country team competed very well at the Portage Invitational. Out of the almost 7,000 runners present that afternoon, our Hornets were well represented — along with 21 guys entered in the Men’s Varsity and JV races,  the Women’s Varsity A and B ran, as did the Middle School’s boys and girls.

At the Men’s Varsity level, Saline took home 2nd place in a field of almost 40 teams. Senior captains Nick Renberg and Spencer Bishop lead our runners throughout the race and they both finished in the top 7 overall. After a “head-to-toe battle” with the eventual Rockford winner, Nick took 2nd and Spencer came in 7th (quote from Coach Spina). As our team’s 3rd finisher, Logan Wetzel was the fastest freshman in the race with a finish of 21st place overall.

The JV squad swarmed the front of their race as our first 7 runners all finished within the top 15 places. Senior captain, Jonathan Parker, came in first for Saline at 3rd olace overall, and next was Matthew Dow 4th, Henry 6th, Crowley 8th, and then came the trio:  Hall 13th, Phelps 14th, and Dew 15th. We “won” this unscored race for the 2nd year in the row; these are the team’s only wins ever taken at Portage.

Go Hornets!
