Congratulations to the Men’s Cross Country team for an outstanding performance this past Saturday at State Championships. The Hornets took an impressive 4th place in DI – their 6th consecutive top-10 finish!
Nick Renberg was the 3rd finisher of the race at 15:28, which pushed him up to 3rd place on the all-time list of Saline’s fastest runners. Dustin Voss (Runner- up ’02, Champion ’03) and Darrell Zeck (Champion ’85, Class B) are the only Saline runners to go before him on that list. As a senior captain, he memorably concluded his last XC season with the Hornets that day.
Next, Spencer Bishop came through the finish for our team at 26th place overall in 15:58. For his achievement, he earned All-State honors (given to the top 30 runners) and he was recognized as Saline’s 9th fastest performance ever at State Finals. Additionally, this was the first time in Bishop’s 4 year XC career that he raced under 16 minutes, so that all-time PR is a definite accomplishment.
Freshman, Logan Wetzel, was the 3rd Saline finisher and 33rd overall. He just missed All- State recognition at a time of 16:03, but he is now the 13th fastest runner in Saline’s history and the fastest freshman (he also broke Dustin Voss’ freshman record of 16:13).
The next 2 runners – Grant Praschan and Jonathan Parker – competed very well as Praschan had his best race post injury and Parker had a season PR.
The last 2 runners for Saline were Anthony Lamus and Andrew Kitto, who both raced the entire 5k within 1 second of eachother and came through the finish at within the same second. This was also Kitto’s first race ever under 17 minutes – nice job!
All in all, Saturday was a history-breaking day for the entire team who should be very proud of their accomplishments this season.
