Girls Golf Teeing Off

The Saline Girls’ Golf team opened up their season at two invitationals that consisted of the top teams in Michigan. Plymouth won both tournaments with outstanding scores of 328 and 318 respectively. The Hornets finished 10th out of 24 teams at the Birmingham Seaholm Invitational at Forest Lake Country Club on Monday, August 20. Jr Emily White led the team with an 81 which placed her 7th in the field. She was followed by Freshman Samantha Kellstrom and Jr Stacy Cruze with 101, and Sr Captain Lauren Rasmussen with 103, for the Hornets to shoot 386. The team had difficulty with the elevated, large, fast, sloping greens. The linksters rebounded on Thursday, August 23 at the Highlands Shootout at Heather Highlands GC where they dropped 31 strokes to finish with a 355 which placed them 7th out of 24 teams. White again paced the team with a 78, a top ten finish (7th individually). Kellstrom is proving a valuable addition to the Hornets as she shot 89 and Sr Captain Louisa Antonelli came back for a 93. Cruze finished up the scoring with a 95. There was improvement in the scoring but much work is needed for the Hornets to move up to the level of the State’s top teams. Seeing the best is motivating the team to practice hard and continue working on the scoring areas- putting and chipping.
