Saline Girls’ Golf played in the Grosse Ile Invitational on Saturday, September 15, where they finished 11th out of 18 teams on Grosse Ile Country Club. The Hornets had a rough day, shooting a team high 397 with starter Stacy Cruze out with illness. Emily White shot 86, Samantha Kellstrom shot 97, Lauren Rasmussen had 104 and Louisa Antonelli, a 110. White finished in the top ten individuals, finishing 9th.
Saline rebounded today, Monday, September 17, at the East Lansing Invitational at Walnut Hills Country Club, where the team came in tied for fourth out of the 21 teams. White led the team with a 78, followed by Cruze with a 91. Rasmussen had a personal best 94 tieing Kellstrom for third best score on the team. Antonelli shot a 98 which didn’t count for the day. The Hornets shot a 357, improving 40 shots from Saturday. Coach French stated, “I was pleased with the girls’ play today after a poor showing Saturday. Emily started slowly today but shot a 36 on the front nine (her second nine) with 2 birdies to turn her round around. Lauren’s 94 is very exciting because she has been hitting the ball well, just not scoring. To have another player with the ability to shoot in the 90’s gives much more depth to the team as the fourth scorer is often the deciding score in a tournament.” Saline continues SEC play against Ann Arbor Huron on Wednesday at Eagle Crest Golf Club.
