With a chill in the air and a short burst of rain, the 2012 Saline Middle School Gold Hornets stepped onto the gridiron at Crabtree Field while the Blue Squads opened up the season in Dexter.

The 7th Grade Gold Hornet defense stopped Chelsea’s first drive, and at 5:49 the Hornet offense had their first touchdown and a 2-point conversion. The score at end of the first quarter was 8-0 in favor of Saline.  Early in the second quarter Saline scored again, but Chelsea answered 14 seconds later with their first touchdown.  With 6:36 on the clock Saline still had the lead by a score of 14-6.  Saline scored two more touchdowns, making good on the 2-point conversions, and at 2:20 the Gold Hornets had a commanding lead of 30-6. With only 40 seconds left on the clock Chelsea made good on a pass play and the score was 30-12 at halftime. The second half proved to be extremely difficult for the Bulldogs as the Gold Hornet defense shut them out. The final score of the game was 54-12.

The 8th Grade Gold Hornets were also victorious on Tuesday afternoon as they defeated Chelsea by a score of 60-8. Chelsea was unable to score until late in the fourth quarter when a 42-yard pass play, complete with 2-point conversion, was successful.

The scores of the Blue Hornet games were as follows:

7th Grade: 32-32 vs. Dexter

8th Grade: 28-0, Saline victory over Dexter

Next week the Gold teams will travel to Tecumseh, and the Blue teams will play at home against Monroe White.
