Coach Katie Card takes over the Girls Water Polo Program

The Saline Athletic Department is very excited to announce the hiring of Katie Card as the new Varsity Girls Water Polo Coach.  Coach Card takes over the Hornet Program after coaching at last five seasons at the University of Michigan as the assistant coach.

Here are some of Coach Card’s accomplishments:

Academics/Athlete:

  • BA in History from Cal Berkeley
  • MS in Sport Management from Eastern Michigan University
  • Played four years water polo in college at Cal and was captain junior and senior year-AWPCA All-American honorable mention and a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honorable mention during senior season.
  • Following college played in Australia’s National Water Polo League for the St. George Dragons for 2007 season

Coaching experience:

  • 10 years coaching club ages 8-18
  • Coached at Miramonte High School in Orinda, CA for two years (JV 2003 and Varsity 2006)
  • Five years as Assistant Water Polo Coach at the University of Michigan; while at Michigan team made three NCAA Championship appearances (2008-10) and set school records for victories and winning percentage.
  • Coached seven All Americans at Michigan
  • Graduate of the NCAA Women Coaches Academy, NCAA Women Coaches Academy Dimension 2 and The Huddle presented by the NCAA Women Coaches Academy
