The Saline golf team won the SEC golf tournament today at Lenawee Country Club for the fourth straight year, securing 1st place in the SEC Red Division.  Saline’s 360 trumped Pioneer’s 368 which allowed the Hornets to wrest the conference title from the Pioneers who came into the event as the leaders of the Red Division after upsetting Saline at a tri-match at Tecumseh at the end of last week. Bedford was 3rd with 401, Monroe 411, Huron 420, and Skyline 439. Emily White was the tournament medalist shooting 81.  Coach Betsy French talked about Emily’s performance, “She played really well until the last couple of holes despite a severe rib injury which restricted her swing. She had a gutty performance today.” Samantha Kellstrom finished her first SEC season as tournament runner-up with an 86 on a difficult, hilly course with wind gusts of 25 mph.  Lauren Rasmussen continued her strong end of season surge with a 96 and Stacy Cruze added a 97 for the Hornets. White, Kellstrom, Rasmussen and Cruze all made the SEC Tournament top 10 team. Two Hornets made the SEC Red All Conference Team, White for the 3rd straight year and Kellstrom as a Freshman rookie. Coach French stated, “This was exciting for the team to come back today after a bad match at Tecumseh. It was a team goal to win the conference and the girls accomplished that today. Now the team will focus on performing well at Regionals at Pineview Golf Course in a couple of weeks. There is still a lot of practice needed to bring scores down to top state team levels.”
