Saline Cross Country brought home another SEC-Red Championship and seven All-Conference honors after winning the SEC Championship race at Hudson Mills Metropark on Thursday.
Senior captains Dylan Jennings, Grant Praschan, and Anthony Lamus finished third, fourth, and fifth to lead off scoring for the Hornets. Sophomore Kevin Hall finished tenth, with Senior captain Andrew Kitto closing out scoring in twelfth, earning all five Saline scorers First-Team All-Conference recognition.
Despite putting all five scorers in the top twelve, Saline was still behind in the scoring at this point. The difference would be made by Senior Matt Elms and Junior John Dolsen. While neither scored points for Saline, they both finished ahead of and pushed back Ann Arbor Pioneer’s final scorer, giving Saline the win by just one point.
“Elms and Dolsen got the job done,” said head coach Carl Spina. “We are really proud of the depth of the team. Our sixth and seventh runners won it for us today. That’s a whole-team performance.”
Elms and Dolsen were recognized as Second Team All-Conference for their performance. The team’s win is the third consecutive SEC-Red Championship for the boys’ cross country program.
“These guys have come a long ways from where they were last year,” added Spina. “We graduated a lot of talent from last year’s team. We should be ‘rebuilding’ this fall. But these senior leaders; they weren’t going to have any of that.”
In the reserve race, Saline sophomore Brennan Corcoran took first place and led his teammates in sweeping the top seven spots in the race. The Hornets scored a perfect 15 points in all three conference races this fall.
Next weekend, the team will travel to Lake Erie Metropark to compete in the Regional Championships.
