Saline’s boys bowling team took their talents to Colonial Lanes in Ann Arbor Monday night to face the Skyline Eagles.
For what appeared to be a blowout of the Hornets early, turned into a very close game down the stretch that was decided by total pin count.
The Hornets fell 10-0 in the first two games, but responded with two straight wins from Brandon Martin (178-169) and Chris Graber (194-186). Robison and Drake would both lose their games (218-177) and (184-149) respectively.
In the second half of the match, Saline would continue to surge, picking up three more wins from Mayer (189-172), Drake (159-108), and Martin (201-179). With the Hornets leading the Eagles, they dropped two games; a high-scoring Robison loss (222-214) and another from Graber (243-165). This tied the contest at 15 a piece, and was decided by a total pin count in Skyline’s favor, giving Saline their first loss of the season.
On Wednesday, Saline would lose another game, this time to Chelsea, 12-18. Brandon Martin led the team with a stellar game of 249 and Britain Drake had a good game of 203.
The ladies faired much better than the boys at Skyline last Monday. Winning 22-8, the Lady Hornets picked up their first win of the season, making their record 1-2.
They also seemed to struggle out of the gate at Ann Arbor, losing the first Baker game 138-107, but quickly picked up steam winning the second Baker game (122-93) and the next four; Owen126-97, Szuminski 141-102, Dejorgle 159-110, and DeCook 142-128.
Saline would only lose two games after that run, and win another four games to defeat Skyline in Ann Arbor.
In Chelsea, Saline’s girl’s bowling team got their second win of the season, now 2-2, in dominating fashion. Samantha Szuminski led the Lady Hornets to their 28-2 win with her strong games of 200 and 167. Sydney Ohl also had two solid games, 187 and 162, while Owen and DeCook bowled 174 and 173 respectively.
Both varsity teams are now at 2-2, and play Huron at Colonial Lanes next Monday, December 19th.
