The Saline golf team competed in the prestigious Suntel Invitational at Birmingham Country Club on Monday, October 1. The Hornets shot a 360 which placed them tied for 7th in a field that included most of the top teams in the state. Grosse Pointe South captured the title with a 332, followed by D-1 #1 ranked Plymouth with a 342 which topped D-4 #1 ranked Lansing Catholic Central by a stroke. The Hornets were led by Emily White who placed tied for third overall with an outstanding 77. Freshman Samantha Kellstrom continued her stellar play with an 84, and she was followed by Stacy Cruze at 97 and Louisa Antonelli with a 102. Coach French stated, ” Emily and Samantha played really well today and although their scores didn’t show it, the other players played a lot of good holes, just getting de-railed on a couple of big holes . Birmingham Country Club is a challenging layout with many elevation changes requiring a variety of shots that aren’t easy to practice. We knew this tournament would be tough but it was another opportunity to play with the state’s top teams. We know what we need to do to get to that level and now it’s just a matter of working hard on the small things over the next week leading up to Regionals.” Pineview Golf Course is hosting the Regional next Wednesday.
