The Hornets started the baseball season on Saturday 4/6/2013 with a sweep in the Blissfield tournament. Winning game 1 12-2 over Monroe Jefferson, game 2 13-3 over Fenton and then beat the host Royals 9-1 on a combined no hitter. Coach Theisen used 7 pitchers on the day and they combined to allow 6 runs (4 earned), 11hits while striking out 24 and walking only 5. Eric Berki(1-0) went the distance in game 1 for the victory striking out 5 and walking 0. Brett Nearing(1-0) went the first 4 innings in game 2 earning the victory on 5 strikeouts and 2 walks. Andrew White pitched 1 inning and Bryan Homberg closed it out with 1 inning pitched with 2 strikeouts. Game 3 was a combined 7 inning no-hitter, Michael Hendrickson(1-0) went the first 4, striking out 7 and walking 2. Matt Willis pitched 2 innings retiring all 6 batters he faced. AJ Korzuck came in and pitched the final inning, walking the first man he faced then striking out the next 3. Not to be outdone, the hitters also had a great day scoring 34 runs on 31 hits and 26 walks. The Hornets also stole 10 bases on the day. 12 players recorded at least 1 walk on the day, 11 players had 1 hit or more, 11 players scored, and 10 players had at least 1 RBI. The offensive attack was led by Trent Theisens 6 hits and AJ Korzuck with 5. Andrew White and Thomas Miller had 4 each. Gage Hammond started the season with a game 1 leadoff Home Run and added 3 stolen bases on the day. John Malbone was aperfect 3-3 at the plate along with 2 walks. THe defense had only 3 errors on the day and were led by Left Fielder Brandon Gordon who had 2 great catches in the outfield.It was a total team effort throughout the entire day as everyone played and contributed to the sweep. A big highlight to the day was when the two injured outfielders, Dan Bennett and Joey Sweigart, arrived during game 1 to support their teammates.
