Saline High School
Skyline High School
Goalkeeper Katie Wagner started the Hornets’ offense with a pass to Maddy Murphy who scored two minutes into the first quarter to give Saline an early lead over Skyline. The Hornets rang a half dozen shots off the post in the first quarter and prevented the Eagles from taking a shot on goal but only had a 2-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Eagles would not relent, scoring two goals in the second quarter, but Jen Green’s goal, assisted by Sam Fitch, kept the Hornets ahead 3-2 at the half.
Maddy Murphy scored her third goal of the game 30 seconds into the 3rd quarter, assisted by Sam Fitch, then added another with an assist from Cassie Anderson. But the Eagles scored on a lob to narrow Saline’s lead to 5-3. The Hornets’ strong defense created turnovers which led to goals as Jen Green added her second goal and Gillian Cain scored twice to a put the game out of reach.
Saline will take its 9-2 record on the road this weekend to play in the East Kentwood Invitational. Saline’s next home game is Wednesday, April 26th against cross-town rival, Ann Arbor Huron. Wednesday’s game will also be Teacher Appreciation night. Come out to support the girls’ water polo team.
