Game Recap

Looking to avenge their 16-1 loss last year given to them by Portage Northern, our lady laxers fell just short in OT losing 11-12. The Hornets had a balanced scoring attack seeing Emma Peoples and Quinn Alexis each getting hat tricks but it was the Hornet defense that came up big at the end of regulation forcing Portage to cough up the ball which saw Grace Livsey tie the game on a free position shot with 20 seconds left in the game. In overtime the Hornets had a chance but were not able connect. The Hornets were led by Emma Peoples and Quinn Alexis putting in 3 goals each. Grace Livsey added 2 goals, Anna LeChard Emily Hill Kaleigh Riggs each added a goal. Goal Keeper Rebecca Caswell ended the game with 7 saves in her first Varsity start. The Hornets will be back in action this Monday with JV starting at 5:30 and Varsity at 7.

Game Recap

The Saline Hornets completed a weekend sweep at the East Kentwood Invitational and extended their winning streak to 13 games by knocking off Grand Ledge 6-2.

Captains Maddy Murphy, Sam Fitch and Cassie Anderson led the Hornets as they did all weekend with strong play at both ends of the pool. Murphy opened the scoring with an assist from Fitch, then scored her second with an assist from Anderson. Fitch scored moments later with a great shot to the corner of the net on a pass from Anderson, who was double-teamed but still managed to get a pass through.
Anderson added a goal in the second quarter off a pass from Murphy. Goalkeeper Katie Wagner made some stellar saves to keep Grand Ledge off the board in the first half.
But Grand Ledge would not quit as they scored the only goal of the 3rd quarter to cut Saline’s lead to 4-1.
The Hornets regrouped at the break. Anderson picked up a loose ball outside the 5-meter line and fired a shot past the Grand Ledge goalkeeper. Hope Smith added an insurance goal and the Hornets went on to win 6-2.

Anderson finished with two goals, two assists and four steals; Fitch finished with one goal, one assist and five steals; Murphy finished with two goals, one assist, one steal. Jen Green, Annika Olsen, Eleanor Smith, Hope Smith, and Lauryn Kruse each contributed a steal.

The Hornets are back in action Wednesday evening at Saline High School against their District 4 rivals — the Huron River Rats. JV plays at 6:00; Varsity at 7:00. Wednesday night is also Teacher Appreciation Night.

Game Recap

The Saline Hornets continued their winning ways at the East Kentwood Invitational on Saturday soundly defeating the Grandville Bulldogs 12 – 1. A smothering defense and strong balanced scoring highlighted the Hornets’s third game of the weekend.

Senior Maddy Murphy scored 30 seconds into the game on a pass from fellow Senior Sam Fitch. Junior Cassie Anderson then netted a natural hat trick scoring the next three goals in a row — the first after her own defensive zone steal, the second off a pass from Jen Green, and the third on a 6 on 5 assisted by Annika Olsen. Murphy picked up her second goal of the quarter after stealing the ball, spinning and firing. Sam Fitch put the Hornets ahead 6-0 on a nice pass from Gillian Cain.

Anderson found the back of the net early in the second quarter to extend the Hornets’ lead. Goalkeeper Katie Wagner made a huge save on a 6-5 to keep the Bulldogs off the board. Jen Green scored when Saline had a 6-5 later in the quarter giving Saline an 8-0 lead at the half.

Gillian Cain opened the sciring in the third quarter with an assist from Jen Green. The Bulldogs only goal of the game was scored on a 6 on 5. As the 3rd quarter was drawing to a close, Eleanor Smith passed the ball up to Annika Olsen who fired a long shot that just beat the buzzer giving Saline a 10-1 lead after three quarters of play.

Senior goalkeeper Alyssa Deal entered the game in the 4th quater and was tested immediately. Alyssa proved to be “The Real Deal” making a save 30 seconds into the quarter and stopping the Bulldogs’ 6 on 5 attempt. Deal made two point-blank saves to keep the Bulldogs from scoring in the 4th quarter. Anderson scored on a pretty skip shot and Murphy completed her hat trick with an assist from newcomer Lauren Kruse.

Anderson dominated at both ends of the pool finishing the game with five goals and six steals. Murphy had three goals and two steals. Hope Smith also had two steals. Fitch, Cain, Green, Olsen, and Eleanor Smith each contributed a steal in the strong defensive effort.

Game Recap

Bri Camero-Sulak took a Nora Udrys feed, 10 minutes into the first half, and deposited into the side netting to give the JV Hornets Gold an early lead. Udrys notched her own goal assisted by Kathryn Wilkie 2 minutes before half to provide all of the offense Saline would need to topple Ann Arbor Pioneer. The defense led by Emily Cohen, Audrey Morton, Lexi Poupore, and Alyssa Williams locked down to allow no shots in the second half and preserve the 2-0 victory. The JV Gold Hornets will play AA Huron on Tuesday, April 25th at Hornet Stadium.
