The Hornets won a hard fought game against Livonia-Franklin tonight at Eddie Edgar Arena in Livonia. Saline battled through another lopsided penalty night, successfully killing off several minors, 2 5-minute major penalties, and 2 5-on-3s to preserve the shutout.
Saline dominated the first period, but it remained scoreless. Brendan Murphy broke the tie half way through the second period on a shot from the point that beat the screened Franklin netminder. The Hornets would take that lead into the 3rd period.
The third period was well fought by both sides. Tom Raupp broke the scoreless period at the 11 minute mark to extend the Hornet’s lead to 2. Raupp then struck again with 4 minuted remaining to reach the eventual final score of 3-0
Notables: Goaltender Jeffery Gilbert turned in another excellent performance to earn his first shutout of the season. Tom Raupp (2g) and Brendan Murphy (g,a) led Saline in scoring with 2pts each, while Ben Wild, Logan Dejanovich, Nick Miller, Yanic Sadek, and Mikhail Lozovyy each added an assist on the night. Saline has a quick turnaround as they play Pinkney tomorrow night at the Cube, 7:15pm.
