Saline captures SEC Red Tournament

Saline Womens’ Tennis won the SEC Red tournament on Wednesday, May 23, at the Saline High courts.

The Hornets finished with 30 points. Ann Arbor Pioneer were runners up with 27 points, followed by Ann Arbor Skyline with 26 points, Ann Arbor Huron with 21 points, Bedford with 11 points and Monroe with one point.

In third singles, Saline’s Carley Hiner was runner up to Ann Arbor Skyline.

Jenny Wolf, earned her flight championship at fourth singles with a straight set victory over rival AA Pioneer.

In doubles, the number one pair of seniors Aly Heider and Zoe Ellsworth swept their flight with a straight set win over Bedford in the finals.

Saline’s second doubles team of seniors Saige Jost and Megan Foley swept their flight with a three-set finals win over Ann Arbor Huron.

Senior Madison Caldwell also stepped up with a gutsy win over Pioneer in three sets.

The Hornets travel to the state tournament in Midland on Thursday. They qualified last week at the Division One regional in Plymouth, MI.
