In a battle of the top two teams in Division 1, Saline scored a goal with under 2 minutes left in the game for the victory over Pioneer. Senior captain Devin Reilly scored both goals on penalty corners to give the Hornets their first ever win over the Pioneers.
With the exception of an early penalty stroke goal for Pioneer, Saline overwhelmed the opponents in possession time, penalty corners and shots on net. Pioneers defensive penalty corner team was tough, as Saline had close to 20 penalty corners, only scoring on two.
The Hornet attacking team of Hannah Jarvie, Bridget Skelly, Caroline Krause, Ali Groth, Ashlyn Murphy, Maya Prasad, and Erin Reilly pressed the opponents hard which lead to multiple turnovers and ultimately scoring opportunities.
Saline’s defensive unit of Emi Maloney, Devin Reilly, Shae Murphy and goal keeper Julia Bentley worked tightly together to thwart scoring attempts.
Saline plays Detroit Country Day Monday at 7pm in Hornet Stadium. It is a Teal Attack game to help raise money for the Michigan Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MIOCA).
